Because they tie almost every system of the game to this exceedingly finite resource and boil a lot of decisions down to "spend points, get thing," and that's not really fun. However, that solution had its own problems, and now we need to think about fixing those. The developers were trying to fix a problem, and came up with a solution that made the game a lot more accessible. I didn't play previous Europa Universalis games, but I did do a little reading on them, and yes, removing a lot of arcane systems in favor or abstract paper, bird, and sword points seemed like a good idea at the time. I know that monarch points have been made fun of a lot in this community, and deservedly so, but I want to try to summarize why I feel they're this millstone around this game's neck and generate some community discussion.įirst, though, I want to say why I get why they added monarch points in the first place.
